- Schlitterbahn Water Park
Schlitterbahn, one of the world's largest waterparks is a family-owned and -operated company based in New Braunfels, Texas. Schlitterbahn began its first park, Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort, in 1979. Since then, Schlitterbahn has developed two waterparks located in Texas - the west side, which is the "old part", and the east side.
Schlitterbahn Waterparks in New Braunfels are summer seasonal water parks. They typically operate from late April to mid-September. It is situated along the banks of the slow-moving Comal River, which is incorporated into some of its rides.
Schlitterbahn has been rated the #1 waterpark in the U.S. for several years. There is a reason why it keeps earning this rank. It is a great place for families to visit and get relief from the Texas heat. It is a wonderful, fun place for multi-age levels because every area of each park has rides and attractions for all ages.
For the younger children
For small children who have not started walking yet, or have just begun to walk, they will love Schatze’s Central Park. It has lots of shade for mom and water features like a mini car wash, super small slides, and water-sprinkling surprises that pop right out of the ground!
The preschool age group may want to stick with the parks' six shallow-water playgrounds.
Hansel and Gretel's Great Forest caters to the smallest kids with short, padded water slides, shallow water, and non-skid walkways - Of course, supervised by certified lifeguards.
Kinderhaven is a shallow water playground that features a miniature pirate ship with slides and water cannons. Others places are Kiddie Park, Kiddie Coast, and the Butterfly Bayou which are great areas for kids who are more active, mobile, and want to splash and slide.
For the older children
Older children can enjoy the majority of Schlitterbahn’s rides, slides, tube chutes, and rivers. There is no lap-riding, but you can find an available tube with a bottom to use in rivers and chutes.
They should find the castles that make up much of the park's architecture something to behold! Rides appropriate for older kids who aren't afraid of rough water and sudden short drops include the Raging River Tube Chute, which takes you on a twisting, mile-long journey in a tube before ending with a splash in the Comal River, and the Hillside Tube Chute, an 800-foot ride from a castle to a lagoon through a tunnel. Brave 8 year old kids may want to try the Master Blaster. It is a water coaster that features 60-foot hills and valleys. They might also want to try the Schlittercoaster, the park's fastest ride.
